Lon Las Cymru begins on the island of Anglesey, amidst gently rolling farmland and fields of sheep, bounded by stone walls and gorse bushes. The trail heads inland as you travel southwards, but never strays too far from the sea. Entering Snowdonia National Park, cyclists can enjoy views of the coast while mountains tower to the left. Dramatic descents and fabulous geology make this one of the most spectacular sections of the ride - and by booking a cycling holiday which includes baggage transfer, you won't have to suffer too much on the uphill sections!

Leaving Snowdonia and Machynlleth, formerly capital of Wales and now home of the Centre for Alternative Technology, the landscape changes again. The long-distance cycle path then forks at the riverside village of Glasbury, with the option to continue through the Brecon Beacons to finish in Cardiff. The more easterly route option continues through Abergavenny and the castle-filled countryside of Monmouthshire, to end in Chepstow.
